PROJECT ONE
First Portfolio project
General Reflection
The song I created has a unique style and is influenced by my love of R&B and a few Animal crossing vibes mixed in. If I had to give this a genre it would be R&B mixed with EDM. I see this song being used as a background sound in a video game or a song played at a workout class. I could also see this being used in South Korea as store music.
Rhythm and Bass
For this song, the Drums and base are pretty simple. I started by using 90bpm to give it that R&B feel and then gave it 4/4 to help the simplicity. The Kick is on the 1 and 3 beats while the Clap (snare) is on the 3 and 4 beats. I copied the kickline and that was the starter for the base. I then took the notes and had them follow the same G major pattern my harmony notes were in.
Harmony and Melody
For this song, I went with the G major Chords as I stated above. I chose this Chord because I wanted a major chord but I didn't want something too bright. The G chords seemed to complement my base and drums well. In the harmony, I used G, Gsus4, C, D, F#, and E. I choose these because they are close to each other stepwise but mixing them up makes it more dynamic. The shape that the harmony makes is a rising and falling motion. In section b I used the inverted keys for each one of the original keys in the first section.
Audio, synth, and sampler
For this part of the track, I made 2 audio tracks and named them Audio 1 and 2. I recorded myself adding percussive and layer base sounds. For the synths I used synth 1 and 2 as names and I made piano and LFO sounds with the synths to add depth to the harmony and melody. and for the Sampler I used two arpeggiators and made one pop the sound up and another to waw the sound around some more. I spend up the sound and had the sound pop up and down with each note.
Mixing
the mixing part was pretty easy. not much needed to be done I did put compression on the base and the kicks to avoid clipping I also added EQ to most of the tracks just to emphasize specific sounds I liked. On the audio tracks I added reverb to give it an open room feel when I was actually in my small bedroom. I did a rough mix to help avoid any other tracks that might be clipping and to make sure not one instrument is over powering the track.

“Violet Lights” lyrics
Written by: Tiler Kyle
Verse 1:
Looking back I can’t imagine
How I survived those nights without you
The pain and hurt, it was unbearable
But through it all you saved me
Like a rain in the middle of the summer
You came right when I needed you most
Now I don’t fear the dark, mmhmm
I won't forget the night under the stars
When I fell in love with you and
The Violet lights in your eyes
Chorus:
Oh, how these Violet Lights shine
Some nights I almost gave up
But I followed those Violet lights
And they brought me to you
Violet Lights, lalala
Oh, how they shine
Verse 2:
Hold my hand a while longer
Just a little longer
Stroll with me and keep me company
Dont worry about anything else
Just rest easy in my arms
Like the first sign of dawn
After a long night, I will save you
So, don’t forget that night under the stars
When I fell in love with you and
The Violet lights in your eyes
Bridge:
Just like a shooting star
Our love sores high
Like the blaze of the morning sun
Our devotion shines bright
Mmmhm, yeah
Chorus:
Oh, how these Violet Lights shine
Some nights I almost gave up
But I followed those Violet lights
And they brought me to you
Violet Lights, lalala
Oh, how they shine
